"In a record breaking election, Jasmin Jones won the runoff election for student body president with 4,881 votes or 51.3 percent. Thomas Edwards had 4,632 or 48.7 percent of the votes. There were 10,240 total votes cast Tuesday."

An email sent tonight from Thomas, after hearing the results of UNC-Chapel Hill's 2009 Student Body President Election:
"So tonight didn't turn out the way we wanted it to, but that's OK. We worked incredibly hard, but more importantly we had a great time doing it. We brought together an amazing group of people and got even more people behind a cause we all believed in. I wouldn't give up the last 8 months for anything in the world.
Most candidates fall off the face of the planet when they lose. I refuse to do that. I don't love this place any less than I did two hours ago; nothing could or will ever change that. While next year will be different that I had hoped, this has by no means broken me down.
I know I put this quote in a previous email, but it's even more pertinent now, only in a different way. "Show class, have pride, and display character. If you do, winning takes care of itself." - Paul Bryant. We did all of those things tonight and though we didn't come out the winner on paper, we won another way, we kept our chins up. We've got to keep doing that.
Lastly, thank you all so much for everything. I can't reiterate it enough. This really doesn't do my appreciation justice, I'm not sure there's a way to express it with words. We never would have gotten this far without all of you amazing people. If you need anything, you know where to find me.
