Heroes

Cathy, the (absolutely inspirational and incredible) teacher of the 3rd grade class that I have been corresponding with from Ghana to Jacksonville, NC for the past 5 months, sent me the following email tidbit yesterday...it made my day.

"By the way, my students had a project recently - Bio-Bottles - they had to pick a real hero and a fictional hero - Reagan chose you as her real hero - I will send you a picture that my student photographer took of her presenting."

At first, when I looked at the picture of Reagan's bottle, I didn't recognize that the person in the picture was actually ME! I was baffled. As you can see, the photo is a little cutoff (I have also included the original) and I had completely forgotten about it.

The assignment challenged me to think about who I would consider to be my "hero" or "heroes". What defines a hero? What makes a person heroic? I did a Google search on "hero" and got 181,000,000 results...wow, that's a lot of heroes!
