Togolese Tea!

October 4, 2008
Breakfast was INCREDIBLE today---AND it was only 500 CFA (about $1)!

Rodolph, a Togolese man that befriended us at the border, met up with our group this morning and took us to one of his favorite breakfast places. It was such a quaint place, hidden on a side road under a tiki hut. Let's just say that the cuisine in Togo is BY FAR more tasty than Ghana's (this might have to do with the fact that Togo was colonized by the French, whereas Ghana was colonized by the English).

We ate french baguettes stuffed with tomato-filled omelets and we drank TOGOLESE TEA! It was one of the most incredible drinks that I have ever tasted. At first, we had no idea what made it so delicious--it was similar to a latte or a mocha. But then, we discovered the MAGIC. They had scooped sweetened condensed milk into a large cup/bowl, sprinkled it with cheap instant coffee, and topped it off with hot water. It was to DIE for. MMmmm! It surpasses hot chocolate, tea, maybe even Starbucks? We tried brainstorming other possible flavors--we could stir in a peppermint stick at Christmas time, or sprinkle in cinnamon for a little spice, etc. I cannot wait to introduce it to my family and friends--you will LOVE it.
