Surprises are always so much fun! Yesterday afternoon, after picking up a few raw eggs from the night market (yes, believe it or not, I am trying to become some sort of "egg-pert"), I was greeted by the porter at our hostel as she said, "Carly, you have a package!" I had no idea who it would be from or what it would be, but it was from Mrs. Dalimonte's 3rd grade class.
Thank you so much, class! It was so thoughtful of you to send a care package. I cannot believe that the package came all the way from Jacksonville, NC in only FIVE DAYS.
They sent Sour Patch Kids (mmm...one of my weaknesses), moist towelettes (I'm guessing they think that I get pretty dirty? haha, but seriously, they are perfect for the dusty weather here), markers, pencils, two globe pencil sharpeners (to give to Mary and Sarah), and the sweetest of all--letters from each student in Cathy's class written to Mary and Sarah!
The letters were adorned with thoughtfully written questions, asking about Mary and Sarah's favorite things and their life here in Ghana. Some of the notes were colored with hand-drawn illustrations, and each one was perfectly pieced together and written from the heart.
I am going to give the letters to Mary and Sarah the next time that I see them, which will hopefully be sometime next week. And before long, it will be the class' turn to receive a package with letters from Mary and Sarah.
Thank you for sending me a little piece of your hearts and your classroom halfway around the world. Medasi!
Here is a glimpse into the sights that I see each day.
